The Footsteps of Hope

Sometimes I can hear her approaching, tiptoeing through the halls of my mind. Other times she catches me by surprise when I have no idea she is coming. The amazing thing about Hope is that you can summon her and she will appear. Not just occasionally or when she has a little bit of free time to “stop on by” but whenever and wherever you need her. That is the beauty of Hope. Never asking questions and always leaving little marks as a reminder that she is here. I cannot recall our first encounter, but I know that she is an ever-present force in my life when I need her. I do not like when I lose her, and I find it to be a rather dark and scary place when she is not around. I listen for the footsteps and when she appears a rush of serenity washes over me, pushing all doubt aside. It is those times when I need her most that she appears to me in the reflection of other objects and people. She tells me to follow the path where my footsteps lead. To smile at the rising sun. To greet each day with a new song in my heart. To answer the questions that consume me. To ask the world if there is something more. To listen from beginning to end. To live with intention is to find her. She tells me that in order to share in her joy; I simply have to seek her. Sometimes it takes losing myself in thought and emotion to truly discover where she is hiding. That is the beauty of hope.
