Working Out

Let’s start with the fact that I hate working out. There is really just no getting around it, so I might as well just fess up. I have never really had any athletic ability beyond dancing so things like PE and group sports have always had a sense of impending doom associated with them. That being said I have decided to get in shape this summer. It’s not that I’m really trying to lose weight, I just want to be fit. (You would understand my motivation too if your parents who are hovering around 60 could outrun you without even trying). As a result, I have become good friends with the newly renovated rec center at William and Mary. The good thing is that the rec center has pretty much everything you could possibly want to get in shape. There are group fitness classes, personal trainers, workout equipment, squash courts, raquetball courts, and massage therapists (although I don’t think they help you get in shape). All that being said, you are still working out.

recSeriously though, the rec center is great. They organize more than just group fitness classes. They are the team responsible for coordinating intramural sports, they run kayaking and canoe trips, they are now organizing a pre-orientation outdoor trip for incoming students, and they even organize “get fit” contests among W&M students with prizes like personal training sessions. So far I’m doing pretty well with the whole get fit goal–I guess we’ll see for real when it comes to be time for the interns to challenge the dean staff to kickball. Eek!!
