Abbreviated Abroad

Studying abroad is a pretty big deal at William & Mary. I had planned throughout my W&M career to spend the second semester of my Junior year abroad. Unfortunately for me, I decided to go pre-med during the first semester of my Junior year which prevented me from being able to go abroad (due to certain class requirements). By the time that I had figured out that I was not going to be pre-med I had missed all of the deadlines for studying abroad.

Then, over Thanksgiving break, I received a letter that said that my opportunity to study abroad had not passed me by. I

had been invited to join a two week program travelling to India in which we would learn about the medical program in the country while also getting to do a lot of the tourist-y things that India has to offer. It was shorter than I had originally planned, but sounded amazing so on May 14th I was off to India.

India was absolutely incredible! The medical portion of the trip, allowed us to get an inside look into places that we wouldn’t have had access to in the US. Some students saw surgeries while others did rounds with doctors in the top medical school in India. We met with the World Health Organization, visited rural health clinics, visited the Mother Theresa Orphanage, and more! We saw the Taj Mahal, the Red Fort, and some of the most beautiful places of worship in all of India. While my study abroad experience was much shorter than most of my friends, it was equally educational and FUN! It just goes to show, that everyone can find a study abroad program that fits their needs!
