Dull Day

For the most part all of us blog about the amazing exciting adventures we have during our time at William & Mary (and abroad), and adventure is a big part of our life here at the college but not all of it.  I want to provide a bit of perspective because sometimes college life is boring.  Sometimes life is boring, and I want you to know that this blog really is about my life at the college: the exciting and the dull.  So here is a relatively brief synopsis of my rather mundane Monday.

One of the biggest factors for my enjoyment of a day on campus is definitely the weather.  I walk around a lot and I enjoy hanging out around campus, so when gray weather rolls in it definitely dampens my mood. Williamsburg has a tendency toward thunderstorms which can actually be quite exciting, but today was just a gloomy rainy day that couldn’t even be brightened by my bright blue rain-boots and very vibrant umbrella.  Weather like this just muffles the fun.

It’s about the time in the semester (2 weeks in or so) when introductions are over and papers start appearing on my to-do list.  The first round of papers is always a little unsettling because I have to adjust to new professors’ requirements.  I had two classes today, and while they were interesting, no Aha! moments came about.

Lunch was a bust because the Dodge Room was out of my favorite kind of sandwich-although I did go to the Marketplace for dinner and make up for it with a tasty grilled sandwich from the deli.  Also, as it is Labor Day, there was no chance for the textbooks I need or care-packages from home arriving.

After class was just reading and writing a response, and then there wasn’t much else to do on a Monday afternoon.  I watched some Friends re-runs and avoided writing other papers (which I am also currently doing by drafting this blog).

While it was exciting to see one of my friends and another may be on her way over soon, by all accounts today has been pretty dull. And that’s ok.  I won’t promise that every day at college will be exciting.  Yes there are tons of great things to do at William and Mary, but some days none of the activities offered will amuse you.  It happens.

I hope this post itself hasn’t bored you. I just want to truly record my time at William and Mary, and like any family it’s not all fun all the time.
