A learner’s paradise

They always say that the most profound lessons are not taught in school, but experienced through the passing of days, months, and years.

One of my best friends that I met in my first few weeks here at William & Mary taught me one of these lessons. Life is all just perspective and context. That’s it. Once you know this little tidbit of information, you can separate what is important from the vast sea of muddledness. You can start breaking down how you know what you think you know, stripping yourself of the biases and the preconceived notions that so frequently taint our thoughts and actions. Eventually, you begin to think about things in new ways- your own ways, and challenging everything else. Sometimes, you feel like you know nothing at all. And that’s okay.

Sometimes it takes just one person to say something in the perfect way so that you can fully grasp it. Professors are smart, but the kids at William & Mary are smart too. They seek to synthesize the enormous amount of information they receive in school and put it into terms that can be applied to them.

When you come to William & Mary, be prepared to enter a learner’s paradise. You will not only learn from brilliant professors with years of experience in their field, but from your peers as well, and the knowledge you receive from both will prove life-changing.
