Packing and Unpacking:

So usually, I’m not a very big fan of packing and moving…in fact, I really don’t like it at all.  Basically this means the idea of packing up my house I’ve lived in this summer and moving over to my dorm room this week is a rather unpleasant one.  But before I get too cynical, I have to remember that when I look past the initial burden of moving heavy boxes I get really excited about thinking about getting to set up my new dorm room with my roommate!  We already have some fun furniture and decorations and it will be great to make the room ours and enjoyable to live in for the year.  Not to mention, moving into the dorm brings about all the excitment of the beginning of the school year.  It means the semester is officially getting ready to start!

Some of the other highlights of moving in are all the chances to meet your new hallmates.  I’m really looking forward to the fact that I’m living on the same hall as another admissions intern, Carrie, next year!  Throughout the semesters your RAs plan different programs and events for all of the residents on the hall, often time including watching movies together, hearing guest speakers, putting together group IM teams, and when you’re really lucky theres free food!

So, while the thought of heaving furniture from my current house to the dorm in the August heat doesn’t thrill me, the excitment of the new dorm room and new semester do more than make up for it and if I’m really honest with myself I’m actually looking forward to the whole process!
