Thrifting in Williamsburg

There is a lot to do off campus at William and Mary, including shopping. There are cute little shops in Colonial Williamsburg as well as the Prime Outlets near school. Yet what I love to do is go to thrift stores. Thrifting is something I did not expect to uncover in abundance in Williamsburg, but so far I have had great finds! (to be included here in my blog and be the opening line of the blog) Just off of Richmond Road and Monticello Avenue, in the shopping center with Rita’s Shaved Ice and Big Lots is the CHKD Thrift Store.

When writing this blog I only just realized that the thrift store’s full name is Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters or CHKD Thrift Store. All purchases at the store help fund Children’s Hospital health care. The Store’s main purpose and focus is to provide inexpensive children’s clothing, but I can always find fun deals. Sooo when buying from this thrift store, people are helping a cause AND recycling at the same time! Perfect!

I don’t have a car at school so I usually either take the bus (that picks me up and drops me off right on campus) or drive with my friends.

There are also a couple other thrift stores I have been to a little bit farther away and where there are no buses that run. Yet the stores are still in Williamsburg and are really not out of the way. I have found dresses from Nordstrom and a designer wallet for my sister for her birthday that I am QUITE proud of!

A lot of students, myself included, go to CHKD Thrift Store to find a cheap and funky outfit to wear out to a themed party. Some themed events I’ve been to are ‘Country Night’, ‘Toga Night’, and ‘Bailers and Ballers’.

*I am on sailing team and a Bailer is something you use to scoop out water from a sailboat and I’m assuming you all know who a ‘baller’ is 😉

See the official website of the Children’s Hospital of The Kings and Daughters:

And here is a picture of one of the items I have found at CHKD Thrift Store: It’s a child’s jersey that says “Starter ‘08” that I wore to a ‘Bailers and Ballers’ party.
