The Most Wonderful Time of the Year…

Before I got to college my favorite time of the year was most definitely Christmas. However, that changed after I participated as a freshman in 2009 in the largest Greek fundraiser at the College, Kappa Delta Campus Golf.

For any of you who don’t have family and friends who attended school here at William and Mary let me explain the greatness of Campus Golf. Kappa Delta, a social sorority, organizes and runs this event to raise money for Avalon, which is an organization that supports victims of domestic abuse. Students organize themselves into teams of four or five members and pay ten dollars apiece to have the privilege to hit tennis balls with golf clubs at holes that have been placed all around old campus. This concept may not sound like it could be better than Christmas but I dare you to hit a tennis ball with a golf club and tell me it isn’t awesome.

The best part about Campus Golf is everyone plays, on the day of the event you will be hard pressed to find a single person who is not participating (over 530 teams registered this year!) As you walk around campus you will see teams dressed in themed costumes and uniforms ranging from mimes to power rangers just having a great time.

Campus Golf truly embodies everything that is great about college, and more specifically this college. All of the students come together as a community to raise more than ten thousand dollars for a great cause and have a great time doing it. That is why Campus Golf is the most wonderful time of the year.
