Another W&M Tradition: Campus Golf

Every year over two thousand William and Mary students, friends of students, and faculty hit the sunken gardens to play a little game of golf. Campus Golf is an annual  philanthropy event sponsored by Kappa Delta Sorority to raise money for Avalon and Prevent Child Abuse America. This even is so hyped up that students will ask the date of Campus Golf as early as in September in order to be sure that they don’t miss it.

As a member of Kappa Delta, I know what it takes to put on such an event. The hard work that goes into planning and executing this event is something most people don’t think nor care to think about. Despite the fact that over a third of campus participates in the event every year, for some reason we are able to execute the event year in and year out. It takes every single member of the sorority to create the golf courses, create the schedule, bundle t-shirts, and make sure the world does not come crashing down on the day of.

The best part of Campus Golf, however, is the fun. If it were not for the running around, the tennis balls, the golf clubs, and the costumes campus golf would not be as popular. This year we had teams dress up as the Jamaican Bobsledding Team, Publisher’s Clearing House Award Givers, Alice in Wonderland, and even some “Cougars” (some girls who dressed up as old women.)

Like all traditions on campus, that every student “has” to do before they graduate, I am sure that every student will tell you that participating in Campus Golf is another one you must do!
