CEO you need to KNOW

While slide-running on one of those obscure machines in the gym, I was reading an article in “Fortune” about the top 40 rising business stars younger than 40.  As I scanned through these unknown faces, I realized that these people created the websites that many William and Mary students use daily. So, I thought I would share some of the important people that we should hug or send a thank you card because what would we do without their innovative media venues? In plus, you never know. You could be on “Who wants to be a Millionaire” and Meredith asks you “Which one of these CEO’s created Twitter?” and thanks to me via “Fortune” magazine you will know the answer[1]!

1.      Our beloved Facebook, a site that has gained the souls of not only W&M students but students around the world. Thanks to Facebook, we can engage in our Facebook stalking adventures without anyone knowing and tell everyone and their mothers (literally) what we did this past weekend!

Founder of Facebook: Mark Zuckerberg (Harvard dropout
making big bucks)
Age: 25

2.      GOOGLE! Do I have to say anymore!  Google calendar, Gmail, Gchat, and of course Google browser have all made life easier to manage! In fact it’s so handy that a song was produced about! And poems are even named after Google[2]! Like Teyana Taylor said “You better ask somebody, better Google Me baby”[3].

Founders of Google: Sergey Brin and Larry Page
Age: Both are 36

3.      With its funny clips from shows like the “Office” and “Family Guy” to its informative clips on information technology and science, HULU.com is definitely a college student hotspot.

CEO: Jason Kilar
Age: 38

4.      Twitter! It’s like the new Facebook except it’s just status updates and everyone with internet on their phone has a Twitter account.  Whether you are updating at a Club discussing someone’s outrageous outfit or doing some homework in Swem Library, you can tweet anywhere. Let’s give a round of applause to those who founded Twitter!

Founders: Bizstone and Evan Williams
Ages: 35 and 37

5.      Last but certainly not least is one of the most popular cartoons amongst W&M students. What’s not to love? It’s vulgar and outrageous making it a must see comedy.  Whether you watch it on Fox or stream it off the internet, I am sure every student has seen at least one episode[4]. FAMILY GUY! You have to love Stewie!

Creator and Executive Producer of Family Guy: Seth
Macfarlane
Age: 36

Now you know the founders, creators, and CEO’s of some of the biggest names in media.  It’s pretty cool that all of them are young.  This could be you someday so dream big and make it happen!

[1] I BETTER GET A SHOUT OUT, something along the lines of “Shout out to that awesome and cute W&M blogger…”

[2] Learned in poetry class that a poem called a poegle involves typing in a phrase in the Google search engine, copying interesting results, and making a poem out of the search results!

[3] Shout out to my sorority sister who loves that song!

[4] Either against their will with evil friends or religiously because they are diehard fans
