Who’s giving the information session today?

So, this morning I was sitting at my desk answering some emails when I get a phone call from our lobby counselor.  There was a mix up in our schedule so the person who was assigned to do the information session was not available, so I just said I would do it.  Because today was a day I was going to be in my office all day, I did not have on a tie.  Lucky for me, the one I keep in my office matched my shirt -a nice blue on gold combination.   So I went in to give the session and ask where people are from as normal.  About half of the 90+ visitors were from Massachusetts.  I start with my normal session joke and get a great response (those who haven’t heard it will have to come listen to one of my sessions).  I am feeling good about the session and it gets better.  People are engaged, laughing at my good, but corny at times, jokes and I can tell they are just happy to be here.   The tour guides came up, introduced themselves and were also very excited about giving the tour.  The best part is that it was a beautiful day outside.

All of this is to say that information sessions can really give you energy.  I was not even suppose to give the session, but the energy I was able to get from the audience and the energy they got from me was great!  I left feeling great about the session, great about myself and best of all great about being at the College of William and Mary!  I guarantee (those are strong words I know) those students will consider W&M as they go through their college search all because of the great time we both had this morning.
