There’s Snow Place Like Home

We admit it! We love our snow days here at William & Mary. They don’t happen that often, but when they do: campus looks absolutely magical. Here are some of our favorite things to do on a snow day:

  • Have a snowball fight on the Sunken Garden. The more the merrier!
  • Gather some friends (or strangers) and build a snowman. Or even an elaborate ice sculpture.
  • Dress up the Lord Botetourt statue with scarves, hats and jackets – statues get cold too!
  • Go to the Blue Talon Bistro! The first 100 people there get free hot cocoa! Perfect to warm up from the freezing cold. (Tell your friends, but keep it on the DL.)
  • Take a walk through Colonial Williamsburg, the holiday lights are already up, so it’s a scene right out of a movie!
  • Go ice skating! Speaking of Colonial Williamsburg, did you know that they put out an ice rink just for the winter? Now you can do it with real snow.
  • Go sledding! The hill by Morton Hall is perfect for going sledding down, it is an exhilarating experience. Even the locals know it’s one of the best spots.
  • Host a movie night indoors with your freshman hall mates. Cuddle up on the couch, build a fort and bring down all the snacks you have been hoarding in your room the entire semester.
  • Take a walk through Busch Gardens! They have the Christmastown festivities in full swing, which means beautiful holiday lights, shows and attractions. Not to mention that perfect Instagram photo.
  • Play the song from Harry Potter when they first go into Hogsmeade. Did we mention that our campus resembles Hogwarts?
  • Do a photo shoot with friends! The Crim Dell bridge, the Wren Building, by the Sundial, the Sunken Garden, we have so many picturesque spots on campus to take pictures.
  • Last but not least, spend some time with those lovely William & Mary people who you have grown to love during your past few years here. There is nothing like a snow day to bring people together.
