The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly (These are not personal descriptors)

The college search process can be an overwhelming experience for all involved with twists, turns, hills and valleys along the way. Fortunately, it is a PROCESS that allows you to learn a lot – about yourself, institutions, geographic areas and the abundant opportunities that a college education can provide.

Admittedly, for those students who ultimately receive the desired thick envelope – that is the perceived “good.” For students who receive a thin envelope – that is the perceived “bad.” And for those who do not hear at all – that is the ugly. (The ugly – the students who never apply to a school but who really want to attend)

But you have got to ask yourself – the good, the bad, the ugly – are these outcomes life altering? Not even close.

These outcomes in no way dictate how life will continue to unfold for you. Always remember, as students, you are the driver. And sometimes as a driver you have got to navigate in all kinds of ways — steering, turning, accelerating, applying the brakes – and most importantly, being responsive to the environment around you.

Remember not to take the process personal. Be informed as you can be and ensure that you are applying to a range of schools that covers your bases.
