Sgt. Cheerleader to the Rescue

A member of the United States Army…and a male cheerleader? At W&M you can have the best of two different worlds. Meet Matt Pinkser ’09. Matt has been a cadet in the W&M Army ROTC for most of his time at the College. Then, in his sophomore year, Matt decided to try something a bit different. Instead of twirling rifles in the air, Matt would be twirling young women with the same ease and integrity. Matt’s journey to self acceptance and being a vital member of what would seem to be polar opposite groups evolved into his own screenplay entitled Sgt. Cheerleader.  The next step brought the story to film here at the College. W&M provided the talented actors, background, and film equipment/staff. Matt enlisted the help of Thomas Baumgardner ’09 to direct the screenplay and create a finished product of which the campus can be proud. Check out the below link to see a behind the scenes look into the makings of this unique student film. Matt is proving that at W&M, you can dive into your passion, no matter how different they might be!
