IT’S ALIVE

Every fall, within a five day period, 5600 undergraduates (both new and returning) descend on campus to begin the new academic year.  Students are terribly excited to move in, see their friends, and prepare for the new academic year.  During the summer, those of us still on campus get used to the calm and quiet but nothing compares to the buzz and excitement of students on campus.

This week I’ve been meeting with all of the tour guides I supervise and just having students back on campus reminds me why I do what I do…for the students…for this campus…for this institution.  Campus is just different when students are here.  There’s an energy, an excitement, a je ne sais quoi.  So if you visit a college campus over the summer, fine, but come back during the academic year when students are present.  What a difference they make!
