Yoav, The Cool Kids, the Ting Tings, and Steer Clear

My favorite event of homecoming weekend is by far the annual concert. My freshman year the Whalers came and performed an awesome concert in the Sunken Gardens. It is somewhat magical to have both current students and alumni join in harmony singing the words of Buffalo Soldier surround by the beauty of the Georgian architecture around the Sunken Gardens. Last year flooding in the Gardens had the Guster concert moved to the then newly renovated Lake Matoaka Amphitheater. That amphitheater was filled to capacity and for those magnificent two hours, everyone forgot that they were in Williamsburg as the sound of Guster echoed through the Matoaka woods.

This year we were graced with Yoav, The Cool Kids, and the Ting Tings. The up-and-coming Ting Tings blew me away with their fresh take on the music scene. All these bands are hot and will definitely be huge on the music scene in the coming years.

After a splendid concert, I had my midnight to 3:00AM shift with the steer clear van. Steer clear is a free service for students that provides safe rides around campus and to places within three miles off campus. Since it was homecoming, we had all sorts of interesting passengers. Alumni being reunited with old friends and looking to find the hottest parties around campus provided me and my driver with some interesting stories and great laughs.

Between the concert and getting a taste of every party by driving steer clear, I had such an awesome homecoming weekend. It is sad to think that next year will be my last one as an undergraduate.
