Good Weather at W&M

For us tour guides, good weather is a blessing. No one likes to give a tour in the pouring rain! Especially for me, a student from the blustery Midwest, I love the sunshine and warm days. For all other students at the college, it is also an excellent perk! Here at W&M we really enjoy the first three weeks and last three weeks of the school year, when the weather is at a consistent 75 degrees. But every so often college students stumble upon a 75-degree week in the middle of February. Ah, the beautiful thing about going to college in the south: being able to walk to class in shorts and a t-shirt when almost the entire rest of the country is suffering from negative wind chill.

Here at the college students like to take advantage of our surroundings. The sunken gardens, for example, are widely enjoyed by Frisbee fanatics, nappers, homework doers, and students alike. The Sadler Center terrace is always buzzing with students passing to and from class, eating lunch, or just spending time being a “terrasite.” Who can forget the historic Colonial Williamsburg? College students love to stroll, run, or even do homework in our historical hometown while enjoying the tourists and all the sights. It is my personal favorite place to take my runs!

But at the end of the day when the sun is setting on the sunken gardens and you are walking back to your dorm from the Sadler Center or class, it’s nice to stop and remind yourself that you go to school in one of the most beautiful places in the United States. Sometimes it’s so beautiful it almost looks fake. I can guarantee you that every student here at the college would be able to say the same about the campus we call home.
