Hidden Gems

unnamedWilliam & Mary has one of the most beautiful campuses I have ever seen; a quick campus tour will show you everything from stunning brick buildings to the lush wooded areas that are interwoven throughout the entire campus. Unfortunately, with so many beautiful places, its hard to take a tour to every single one. I had already fallen in love with William & Mary as a campus and as a university, and then, I found Lake Matoaka.

Lake Matoaka is one of the most brilliant hidden gems of our campus, hands down. Aside from the serenity of a still lake, and the comfort of beautiful trees, Lake Matoaka has so much to offer. Whether it be an a cappella performance given by one of the amazing groups on campus or just a quiet time to read and relax, there is always something to do. The amphitheater provides a great space to make memories, but my favorite part of Lake Matoaka—by far—is the boat house. By simply being a William & Mary student, you have full access to canoes and kayaks to take out and enjoy. On a hot day, I love to go kayaking with friends, which often ends with us splashing one another to cool off (or cause trouble). Sometimes I like to just head out on my own to just get a break from the crazy college life and just enjoy the incredible place where I go to school.

William & Mary has so many hidden gems.  If you are ever on campus, I highly recommend swinging by Matoaka and checking out the boat house!
