Donut Denial

I started out super early this morning with the full intention of stopping at Dunkin Donuts to get a couple dozen donuts for the office, but the DD site lied to me about having a location on 451 E Street SW. There’s nothing but a huge amount of construction where my “in” with the office should have been…but at least I got a nice walk in to work and learned a new way to get in without transferring trains (I go yellow to blue, but I only go one stop on blue – it takes ten minutes to walk in if I get off at the place I transfer, and on nice days, that’s a great way to get some extra exercise…plus, it knocks 10 cents off my cost – love it!.

I got in excessively early since the donut gods weren’t with me, and I was hanging in the copy room for about an hour before anybody unlocked my office. At least I got some work done… no more earliness for me – apparently it doesn’t matter when Congress is not in session.

Next Monday, though, that will be entirely different. Instead of seeing everyone coming in at 9:30 dressed in their khakis or jeans, polos or t-shirts, and flip flops, they’ll be decked out in suits, or at least coat and slacks. I can’t wait – I love dressing up!

I had my first meeting today to get ready for the hearing Wednesday. I had to read up on every aspect of the background and previous hearing info I could, and I was well-prepared, so it went well. I was tasked with updating the hearing memo, which wasn’t too bad, since this is a follow-up hearing from July. I just had to add some new background information since there were some issues with people not complying with Congressional subpoenas (cute, really). After that, I organized the new briefing packets for the hearing, which was definitely interesting as well. At around 3, I headed over to the main House building to pick up my ID, since I’ll need it to get into hearings and get into the office during off-hours. I was definitely excited to be wearing my House of Representatives ID – totally Hill!

Class today was a tour of GW’s library – nice, but I like Swem better. After the tour, everyone came back and I ate dinner. I am now delving into the books my mom sent, as I have been reading in one of them assigned for tomorrow’s class. I am thinking it’s going to be a VERY early night!
