Hot Times, Summer In The City

My lovely readers! It has been MUCH too long since my last post. It has been a crazy world out there, and I have been too busy to write about it! But here I am, writing about it. A quick recap of the last few weeks of school: Foxfields was excellent. (For those of you not from VA, the Foxfield races is a great day where students from all over VA get together and watch a horse race in Charlottesville, it is WAY too much fun, and definitely something to go to while at WM.) I performed in a Directors Workshop play, I didn’t have any lines, but had a really good time being a part of a small, student run cast and production. Which also really shows how talented the students in the WM theater department are: they cast, direct, stage, costume, and light their own one act shows as part of a directing show. It was a ton of fun! Of COURSE exams were grueling, but we all got through them, one way or another. With impromptu trips to Richmond to see Jacks Mannequin perform with some friends, I am proud to say that I did quite well this semester.

NOW. I am currently living in the the Village here in New York City. I am originally from Chicago, so I don’t feel out of place in New York, but I have to tell you that if you walk two blocks from my dorm you are in China Town. If you walk another two blocks you’re in SoHo, and another two blocks and you are in Washington Square. So, I’m in a great area! I am lucky enough to be able to take a musical theater class and an audition technique class here at NYU Tisch, which is the school of performing arts. It is awe inspiring to be in a city so vibrant, with students so dedicated to their craft. I also would never have known about this program were it not for WM theater professors suggestions that I apply. One thing I really miss, though, is a campus. NYU doesn’t have the “I am not at school” vibe that WM does. I miss the homey, comforting, easy atmosphere of WM. It really makes me realize how good we really have it at WM. When the cars slow down for you to cross the street, the rec center doesn’t have bars over its windows, and I can walk places late at night and still feel safe. Thankfully, I will be receiving transfer credit for the work I am doing here at NYU this summer, and I’m happy to say that all my hard work will be worth it.

So, stay tuned readers, I will keep you posted about some of my auditions, meetings with casting agents, and show experiences.

big SMOOCH
