The Give & Take

Being a transfer student and not living on campus I was super worried about how to get involved. I tried out for the cheerleading team and immediately had a group of 20 girls who helped me around campus for those first few nerve-wrecking weeks! During orientation I found out about all of the different clubs and organizations on campus and really wanted to get involved. So my first semester I also joined a sorority! Both of these experiences have been wonderful and I instantly had a close group of people I could rely on. Once winter rolled around, I wanted to join the dance team for basketball season, and thankfully I made the team. I was ecstatic, dancing that season was amazing, and once again my network just kept growing!

The following semester I was very interested in engaging with the community outside of William & Mary. I joined College Partnership for Kids (CPK) and had an incredibly rewarding experience. CPK takes William & Mary into the community at various public schools to spend an hour or two tutoring local students. This was such a great time and I knew I wanted to continue until I graduated. Additionally being a psychology major I got very interested in mental disorders and how our local community was affected by this. I started volunteering at Eastern State Hospital and continue to do so today. The doctors and social workers there are amazing and I absolutely love the patients. I go there to talk and bake with them and even help some learn to read and write. Now as my senior year comes to an end, I knew I wanted to be involved in the admission process and serve students trying to navigate the college process. I was so excited to find out I would be an intern in the Undergraduate Admission Office for DFAS and for transfer students! Joining clubs and organizations is one of the easiest ways to engage with your peers and I have learned so much through my various organizations! I look forward to getting to know all of you and always feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns!
