Spring is in the Air

As the College of William and Mary comes back to life after a week long Spring Break, the flowers are not the only things blooming around campus! With spring in the air there is certainly a strong push towards the last two months of school. It is absolutely crazy to think that I will be a senior next semester… but as that time quickly approaches there are a few interesting tasks that each student at the College is faced with this time of year. One of the most important tasks that all of us students take on is deciding what coveted residence dormitory we want to live in. From the cottage-style resident houses of the Lodges to the newest resident halls of the College, Jamestown North and South, upperclassmen are faced with the challenge of finding the best living situation for themselves. As I have been fortunate enough to live in Barrett Hall my freshman year and then Landrum Hall my sophomore and junior years, being so centrally located on campus has been such a great experience. Located behind the Crim Dell Bridge, Landrum Hall provides a short trip to the academic buildings and dining facilities. Nestled in the heart of old campus, Barrett Hall was simply a scenic dormitory located close to the Sunken Gardens with a large portico providing endless a cappella performances and a great place to spend outside with friends. So no matter where on the College campus, or off, that students here at the College decide to live, the campus is certainly buzzing with plans of housing, roommates, the most ideal spots on around town.

Another important task that I really need to start planning out is next semesters’ classes. It amazes me that we are already looking into what interesting classes we all want to take next semester, but it’s just that time of year again! With sophomores declaring their majors and upperclassmen working towards completing their general education requirements (GREs) and fulfilling their major requirements, there are endless possibilities of classes one can take. It almost becomes a balancing act, deciding between all of the interesting classes that you want to take here at the College. One of the greatest aspects of being a liberal arts university is the ability to take classes in a wide-range of subjects. Students don’t have to worry about solely concentrating all of their studies on their major or minor because the GREs allow you to explore different subjects. Sometimes this exploration can lead to newfound interests or a completely different major. So as all of us students start to shed our winter gear and the flowers start to sprout between those last patches of snow around campus, the push towards the end of the semester is certainly upon us!
