Overheard in Committee: Time for Transfers
Admit It! Transfers. You’ve been patient. You’ve read (and even commented on) the recent blogs regarding Early Decision committee and ED Decisions. Now it’s your turn. Well we agree. Transfer Committee for spring transfer applicants began last Friday and is going strong as we enter December. So far there’s been lots to discuss but what was overheard in Committee today was a very common and predominant theme.
Overheard in Transfer Committee: Unfortunately the student did not send mid-semester grades.
Okay, so this is a bit of a pet peeve with us. We promise there are no extraneous components of an application. We don’t ask you to go through the trouble of procuring and sending mid-semester grades (and we know that process can in fact be troublesome) just for fun. We truly find them useful.
Maybe this is your first semester of college and we want a progress check. Maybe you took a withdrawal last semester and this is your first semester back…and we want a progress check. Maybe this is your first full-time semester (in terms of credit load) and we want to see how you’re handling it. Maybe your grades are finally on an upward trajectory and we want to see if that trend is continuing. Maybe, maybe, maybe; we could go on and on. Suffice it to say there are lots of reasons that mid-semester grades can prove useful.
For students who are academically on the bubble, mid-semester grades can definitely be a tip factor, and we want to see them. We really appreciate the time and effort it takes for you to get them. Believe us; they can really make a difference. We promise they come into play when reviewing applications and were definitely a topic of conversation in today’s committee.
So there you go. Hope it was worth the wait. We are working efficiently to wrap up the spring transfer review process and will blog again when decisions are ready to be released. Stay tuned!

Good Afternoon Admit it!
As a spring transfer applicant, if I did not sign up for classes during the fall semester at my local college, would that exempt me from turning in the mid-term report? I know this question may sound silly, but I want to be sure that the admission committee knows that I have completed all my classes before last summer.
Just wanted to say thanks for this! I’ve been so anxious about this decision, on top of my last tests, homework, papers, and finals all coming up in the next week. I really, really want this so badly! I sent in my mid-term grades, so that makes me feel a bit better. Thanks again for all the updating throughout the whole ED/transfer process. It really does make the wait a lot easier, and makes the whole process a lot friendlier.
@Transfer Applicant, if you are not currently enrolled in any courses we do not expect any mid-semester grades to be submitted. We even thought about including that in the blog so great minds and all that.
@Super Hopeful Spring Transfer, we are happy to help. We know there’s a lot of stress and anxiety surrounding these processes and anything we can do to help we’re happy to.
Should we have received confirmation of our mid-semester grades? I know I tried to send mine in, but I never heard from anyone specifically that they’d been received. Thanks!
@Maureen, we don’t send any automated confirmation of receipt of mid-semester grades. You’re welcome to check-in with us and we can let you know if they were received.
I heard from financial aid today. At first they said they were missing a piece of info, but then (to my relief) they have it all. Assuming the decision is a positive one, how long is it before we hear from financial aid? And, what is the turn around time from hearing from financial aid and when the deposit must be paid?

@Wondering, that’s a good qustion for financial aid. Usually the turn around is around 7 days or so but they’ll know that better than we will. The deposit is due two weeks after you get your decision email.
And just a good reminder to all: financial aid will reach out to students asking for additional information before any decisions are reached so hearing from financial aid does not necessarily imply a positive decision.
