Kickball and the end of the summer

In a final score of 6-2 the deans redeemed themselves in the annual deans vs. interns kickball challenge.  The game was competitive and the deans were down 2-1 going into the 5th inning (we play 6 innings).  As the coach of team deans, I refused to let another L show up on our record.  So in the bottom of the 5th, we had a rally.  We tied the score with only 1 out in the inning.  It was my turn up at the plate and I saw a hole in the defense.  The bases were loaded and I said to myself, “if,  you can get it into dead center field in the air, we can add some runs.”  The ball went exactly where I wanted it to go, Natty did not get there in time and the ball dropped and I rounded the bases for a grand slam that would prove to be the game winner.

The game was filled with great defense from both sides.  Wendy Livingston made a heroic catch.  Mike Kaplan, who came out of retirement for the game had some key plays in the field and our fearless leader, Dean Broaddus, was back after suffering an injury right before last year’s game.  In the end, I think all parties had a great time participating in the game and the after game outing at the Leafe.  I hope this is the start of new run for the deans.  We need to take this momentum into next summer and continue to play at this level.  I am very proud of my team and proud of the “Starship Internprise” for their hard work all summer.  They were a formidable opponent and have been a great group to supervise this summer.  This is always a great way to end the summer and while it is not over just yet, I know I will miss seeing their faces everyday and wish them the best in their senior year!
