Gem in the Woods

The Matoaka Amphitheater is a gem in the William and Mary Crown.  It has been a place for students and ‘townies’ to go for a very long time.  From the days of the ‘Common Glory’ production to scary movies in the 80s to the new Summer Concert Series.  It is the latter I would like to tell you about today.

The Amphitheater is set on the edge of Lake Matoaka with a beautiful tented stage and tiered seating to allow actual seats as well as bring your own chairs.  Beginning last year a local event company presented the Summer Concert Series which includes a variety of bands representing a variety of music one night per week.  The bands include British Invasion, Reggae, Country and Funk among other types of music.  There is literally something for everyone.  There is a beer, wine, food and other beverages offered for sale or you can bring your own (no alcohol allowed from outside though).  There is even a bounce house for kids.

I have been a couple of times and enjoy the casual atmosphere and the mix of people there.  What a relaxing and fun way to end a day!
