Final Freshman and Transfer Waitlist Update

We Admit It! Summer is a wonderful time of year. Williamsburg is gorgeous, summer visits are in full swing, and we have welcomed a new group of senior interviewers who are currently busy meeting with the potential applicants for the Class of 2022.

As we begin to turn our focus to next year’s applicant pool, it is unfortunately time to close the chapter on the 2016-2017 admission cycle. On Friday, June 9 (freshman applicants) and yesterday, June 22 (transfer applicants), we sent an email out to all currently waitlisted applicants letting them know that our incoming freshman class and incoming transfer cohort are both full.

At this point we do not anticipate making any additional admission offers. This being said, as stated within the text of the email that was sent in recent weeks, there does remain the chance that spaces could become available over the course of the summer. Should this take place, we may be able to admit a few additional students in the coming weeks.

If you are reading this post and find yourself still strongly interested in William & Mary, you are welcome to complete the form that was linked within this latest waitlist email. As before, you are also welcome to email your regional dean to express your continued interest in W&M. Moving forward, we will only extend admission offers to those students who have submitted this latest waitlist interest form. Any additional admission offers will be made by August 1, 2017.

If, however, you are reading this post and have decided that you would like to turn your full attention to the school to which you have already committed, we of course understand and support this decision, too. You no doubt have a tremendous college option lined up for next year, where you will achieve great things and grow into an even more fantastic individual. Should this be the path you take, our office wishes you nothing but the absolute best.

Because we are now turning our focus to the 2017-2018 admission cycle, this will be our last blog post pertaining to 2016-2017 applicants. All students who are not offered admission this cycle, but who remain strongly interested in W&M, are encouraged to learn more about our transfer admission process. We admit hundreds of transfer students each admission cycle, each of whom becomes an integral member of our campus community. Information regarding our transfer process can be found on our webpage, and Dean Whitney Pitschke is happy to answer any specific questions that you may have about applying.

To all students reading this, we want to thank you again for sharing your stories with us, and for so patiently working with us over the past several months. As our colleague Dean Deborah Basket would say, you are the reason why we do what we do. All of us at W&M can’t wait to see all that you will accomplish moving forward.

To all parents, guardians, family members, counselors, teachers, and mentors, thank you for showing such tremendous support and advocacy over the course of this journey. It has been a humbling and rewarding experience to learn more about your students.

Class of 2022, and incoming transfer students for spring and fall 2018, it’s officially your turn! We look forward to working with you, and to helping you through the college application process.
