Boldly Going Where No Intern Team Has Gone Before

So it’s year seven.  The deans’ record: 6 – 1 (and of course that’s six wins and one devastating loss that was dealt at the hands of the 2009 “Internship” — they thought they were so clever with the pirate-themed challenge and uniforms and I have to give it to them, they were).  But losing was so last year.  2010 is the dean’s year again, I can feel it.  But we were sensing a bit of hesitation from this year’s crop of interns.  But when I explained that the game is a tradition (and of course tradition is no stranger to William & Mary) and that the ensuing post-game dinner and drinks celebration is not to be missed, they reluctantly agreed to participate.  A date was set and rumor of an official challenge being issued was in the works.  Given the mild lack of enthusiasm, I had my doubts.

Well, I should never have doubted the crew of the “Starship Internprise” as they have decided to call themselves.  A subtle but clever YouTube video challenge awaited me in my in-box this morning.  This year’s class is just as creative and personable as the six classes that have come before them.  They have so much vitality, humor, culture, and personality.  It was in fact at a Filipino dinner hosted and made by one of the interns for all of the other interns that this plan was hatched.  It is at these types of intern gatherings and it is moments like waking up to a Star-Trek-themed kickball challenge that remind me why I love my job, I get to work with incredible William & Mary students each day.

So CaseyNattyNoelleEvetteJBCassandraNickJennAdamBlair, and Imad, thanks for keeping the tradition alive, for contributing so much to our office this summer, and bring your game faces on August 4.  The deans will bring theirs.  And afterwards we will celebrate in a fashion that exemplifies the tight-knit feel of the W&M Community.
