… And Many More

Admit It!  You’ve probably not encountered many colleges that make a big deal out of their birthday.  But in all fairness to other colleges, only one other can boast celebrating more than 319 birthdays.  At William & Mary, our birthday is a weekend-long celebration called Charter Day.  Charter Day marks the anniversary of the granting of the College’s royal charter by England’s King William and Queen Mary.  The celebration is marked by a guest speaker (this year it will feature the investiture of former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates ’65 as William & Mary’s 24th chancellor), a Saturday evening concert (this year’s headliner is Third Eye Blind) and the awarding of faculty, student and alumni awards.  Not to be left out on the festivities, some of the admission deans wanted to wish W&M happy birthday, and many more.  You can do the same, see other birthday wishes and learn much more about Charter Day on the occasion’s special microsite.

So without further ado…

“Happy B’day William & Mary.  I hope I look as good as you do when I’m your age!  Sounds far-fetched but with W&M kids and their research, I wouldn’t be surprised if they make it a possibility.”  – Tish Lyte

“Birthday wishes to the Alma Mater of a Nation: there is only one W&M!”  – Matthew Pohl

“It’s not mere longevity that makes you stand out among the crowd, William & Mary.  It’s the recognition that you’ve been better for longer.  Happy birthday!”  – Henry Broaddus

“You don’t look a day over 212 W&M!  Thank you for letting me be a part of your storied past, you vibrant present and your amazing future.”  – Wendy Livingston ’03, M.Ed. ‘09
