Admission Office’s Holiday Break

We Admit It!  There are many benefits to working for a university; not the least of which is a holiday break.  Our office will be closed beginning Friday, December 20 and will reopen on Thursday, January 2.  During this time we will be closed to visitors and phone traffic but we Admit It!, there’s no such thing as a true break during reading season.

During the holiday we will still be processing applications (which you all will hopefully be submitting), and we will be available through our office’s email account (admission@wm.edu) which will be checked daily (save December 25).  In order to help answer the most frequently asked questions during this time of year, please review the bullet points below.

  • The Regular Decision application deadline is midnight on January 1 EST.
    • Accompanying materials should be postmarked by January 2 if being mailed (namely transcripts and letters of recommendation not submitted electronically through the Common Application).
    • Our goal is to work with each interested student to ensure they can submit a complete application to W&M.  If your school sends a transcript for you on January 6 we will gladly accept it.  But please do everything in your power to ensure all materials are submitted by the deadline
  • From now through January 1, we will receive hundreds if not thousands of applications each day.  It will take us time to process each and every one.  Therefore at this time, we are not able to confirm receipt of any application or accompanying components.
    • Remember, we will email you once we download your application from Common App (this can take 2-3 weeks from when you submitted it at this time of year) and we will email you again to let you know your application is complete once we have matched your application with all of the required materials (this can take several additional weeks).  Check your inbox frequently for updates from our office.
  • Our application process page is a great resource as you prepare to submit your application.
  • If you encounter any technical difficulties with the Common Application, please contact the Common Application directly.  Their Help Center should be able to assist you.
  • Our spring information session and tour schedule is available online.  You are welcome to register for an on-campus visit at any time.

Should you have any other pressing questions during the holiday, please feel free to post them to the blog or email us at the address above.

And from all of us here at W&M’s Admission Office, Happy Holidays.
