Getting Off Campus

Thinking back about my time at WM, I have always appreciated the off-campus attractions that can keep every student occupied when not doing other things. I’m currently sitting in Panera Bread, doing some studying, and I just realized that when you are off campus you never really feel like you are actually studying. Why is that? I’m not really sure, but I like it.

William and Mary definitely is a challenging school academically, and if you choose to, you will find more than enough things to keep you busy every hour of every day. This can make your experience both extremely eventful and exciting, but it can also be very draining. When I feel worn out or exhausted, it always refreshes me to get off campus. Here are two of my favorite things:

First, I LOVE Colonial Williamsburg. I know people write about “CW” all the time, and I can’t blame them, but in my last two years here I have fallen in love with it. Just 15 minutes in the colonial town makes my day. There is something relaxing in a horse and buggy, and there is something even more relaxing in the free hot cider throughout CW.

Second, there is no better deal than that offered at the Movie Tavern. Students are given the child/senior citizen discount. To see a brand new movie in a huge theater where you sit on extremely soft leather seats, we have to pay only 6 dollars. It’s a “tavern” because you can also order food and drinks and they will bring it out to you while you’re watching the movie. What more can a college student ask for?

Now, believe me, there are many more off-campus attractions, but I’ll save them for another time. Or maybe some other people will share their favorite locations. We’ll have to see!
